History

Millar Road was established by the Collinge family - Ginny and Jeremy and son Gregory - in December 2004.

The idea started on one of Gregory's trips back from London during the early noughties when the need for beautiful vineyard accommodation in Hawke's Bay was identified given the bourgeoning food and wine scene. The land was purchased in 2002 and construction undertaken during 2003 and 2004 with the seriously stylish accommodation opening for business in December 2004.

The style of the accommodation was born from a desire to create a particularly New Zealand accommodation experience with an emphasis on Hawke's Bay's wonderful weather, food and wine. People stay with us in order to experience the amazing things that Hawke's Bay has to offer, so we wanted to create accommodation that allowed guests to explore 'the Bay' easily but also get away from it all in a relaxing and secluded environment.

We think we created something pretty unique when we started with our emphasis on Hawke's Bay and New Zealand design and art. We worked with both established and up and coming furniture makers to source furniture and we have always had an emphasis on local art in the accommodation. We even set up our own linen company at one point 'Esther Diamond' to print art onto fabric and much of this linen remains in the accommodation.

We planted the vineyard in 2004 and 2005 and, having initially sold grapes, we started producing our first wine 'The Supernatural' in 2009. The Supernatural Wine Co. now produces certified organic, low intervention white and skin-fermented white wines and distributes these globally.
